Port Wine Stains

Port wine stains are permanent vascular birth marks. They derive their name from the dark red or purple color that “stains” the skin. Port wine stains often appear on the face but can appear anywhere on the body. They get darker and thicker over time and sometimes develop an irregular or pebbled surface.

Although most port wine stains do not pose any health risk, some people choose to have them removed because they consider them unattractive. A series of laser treatments can help to make port-wine stains appear smaller and lighter.
